So as far as my training record goes, I've completed all necessary requirements (ie: briefs & training) for my General Flight Progress Test (GFPT). Now I am waiting for my flight test, which is scheduled for next Wednesday. Once successfully completed, I'll have a restricted license, allowing me to fly with passengers in the area around the Toowoomba Aerodrome & in the 'Training Area' - a designated area south of Toowoomba.
So yesterday I did my GFPT groundwork (theory) & then did my pre-gfpt flight. This consisted of an hour & a half of flying, the instructor putting me through my paces, as if in the test itself. I will be doing another one of these flights on Monday morning, so as to keep me current for the test on Wednesday.
The airspace over Toowoomba was a little busy yesterday. It required the pilot to be vigilant with situational awareness. It's got me thinking about how daunting it will be flying into controlled airspace at Archerfield, Coolangatta or Maroochydore when I start my navigation exercises in a couple of weeks. The only time I've ever flown in controlled airspace while sitting in the front (albeit, right seat) was flying with a mate of mine Nic, in Boise, Idaho, USA (the head on the left in the header above). We flew out to the Snake River & then back into Boise for some touch & goes. I can't wait for the day when he & his wife come down under so I can take him on a flight. I think a nice flight up the coast to the Whitsunday's would be in order... land at Shute Harbour, stay for a bit & then fly back. (What are you waiting for Nic??? Get Sarah to book the tickets!)
The next thing I'll be doing (on Monday), is converstion to the Cessna 172S. This particular aircraft has what's called a 'G1000 glass cockpit'. Similar to the one in the header of this blog, with the big LCD screens. Next week I also start the Private Pilot License ground school classes, with Airlaw & Navigation. We'll also be covering Meteorology, but at a later point in time I believe.
So right now I have to go & hit the books... I'll let you know when I've had more 'wind beneath my wings'.
