There are a lot of different tools and capabilities inside of DownWind so I thought that it was about time that I featured a number of them to help members get the most out of the site.
Setting your picture

|
One of the first things that you should do is set your Avatar (eg. a picture of you, your plane or anything else) so that people can get to know you a little better. What I've noticed is that members with avatars are often the ones that are getting the most out of the community. Here are the simple steps to set your own avatar.
1. Login to DownWind
2. Click the top community menu.
3. Run your mouse over the "Profile" tab and you will see a menu appear. Click on "Change profile picture".
4. Click the browse button to find a picture on your computer and then select "Upload". That's it, you're now all done!

Inviting Friends
It's really easy to find friends and to invite your own friends to DownWind. Just like in sites like Facebook DownWind all suggests people that you may know so that you can invite them to become your friend. Maybe, they fly similar aircraft or fly out of the same airport? As we all know, rubbing shoulders with other pilots is a key way of maintaining our own aviation knowledge so you may want to check out this area. Here's how to do it:
1. Login to DownWind.
2. Click on the community menu at the top.
3. Run your mouse over the "Friends" tab and you will see a menu appear. Click on "invite friends"
4. If you want to invite friends that may not be on DownWind you can enter their email address in the "To" text box (you can add lots of email address -one per line) and then send them a message such as "Thought that you may want to join me on DownWind." Once you click the "Send Invite" button then this message will be emailed to your friend.
5. You may notice that at the bottom of the page there are a number of "Friend suggestions". These are people that the DownWind system thinks that you may know or may want to get to know. You can click on the "Add as friend" link and send them a message to become your friend. Maybe you fly the same aircraft and it could be beneficial to swap information on it.
I hope that an explanation of these two features help you get more out of DownWind.
