I attended the Fantastic Barossa Airshow yesterday with my fellow AWPA members. We set up our tent which we shared with Tafe SA.
AWPA has always given out free sunscreen at these events, the weather in the morning was rather overcast, however by lunch time it had heated up and the low cloud had cleared, so we were very popular!
The airshow was a fantastic day, with over 5000 people attending. The event showcasing many aspects of aviation, from model airplanes demonstrations to parachute jumps and spectacular air displays from a variety of beautiful warbirds, antique aircraft, RA aircraft to Chris Sperou and his amazing Super Stinker.
A few highlights for me were a personal tour of Steve Deathes beautifully restored Harvard, which I had the absolute delight of being able to sit in the command seat, and then after that meeting the amazing 13 time world aerobatic champion Chris Sperou and the Roulette team.
I had been lucky enough to be in the back seat of the Yak52 with Dave Forsyth when he practiced his aerobatic display the week earlier at Gawler, so watching him do his routine from the ground was an amazingly different view.
I had also sat in the Yak 52 saturday afternoon when the formation team practice was conducted over St Kilda with the two Nanchangs and again... a very different feel when your watching from the ground.
Brettp was there with his superduper camera, I hope we see some spectacular pictures from him on the site soon!
I am looking forward to the next event at Barossa, what a fabulous setting and amazing turn out! Well done to all the committee and congratulations on delivering a successful, exciting and fun filled event!
