Last weekend I had the great opportunity to fly down to Kangaroo Island for a night. Friends of ours were staying down there and had offered to provide us with accommodation, food and transport. All we had to do was get there. As if we’d say no!

I've had my license for over two years and up until yesterday, I'd never taken anyone in my family flying. That finally changed...

A couple of months ago I headed up to Murray Bridge to check out the RA-Aus scene and enquire into getting the RAA license. Due to the ever increasing cost of flying GA, and the lack of willing sponsors (ie friends who want to join me!), I decided that it would be worth considering RA.

A short holiday down to Tasmania recently presented an opportunity I couldn't pass up...hiring a plane out of Launceston and heading up to Flinders Island for a quick visit. Prior to leaving Adelaide I'd been in contact with the folks at the Tasmanian Aero Club at Launceston. My plan this time was to hire a plane and fly 'in command' rather than 'dual' like my other flights away from Adelaide. In order to do this I also had to book in for a check-flight prior to being given the green light to take Cessna 172 VH-TNM on my own.

I’d had my PPL less than a year when we headed over to New Zealand for a holiday. It just so happened that we were going to be in Wanaka at the same time as the world famous Warbirds over Wanaka Airshow. I swear I didn’t organise it that way…honest. After the show (which was fantastic for anyone thinking of going!), we headed down to Queenstown to take in the sights and activities.
After a tour of Milford Sound and the obligatory Shotover Jet ride, we headed out to Queenstown airport, just out of town to see about hiring a plane. I’d been in contact with the Wakatipu Aero Club before we left Australia to ensure I had everything I needed (just a logbook in the end!) and to check that I would be able to hire a plane for a scenic flight. Similar to my LA flight, this would be dual to avoid all the paperwork nightmare and extra checkrides.
