Aviation Tertiary Education. 3 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Hi All,
I often get asked about the worth of teriary education in the aviation field. Personally, following the Ansett collapse in 2001, undertaking a Masters degree was very worthwhile. But everyone's case is different.

Great article Owen and food for thought, particularly considering what I wrote here: Marco's thread
Being someone who walked out of school at the first available opportunity, I sometimes view the world through the success I have had without a formal education. In the aviatoin industry I conceed that this is becoming harder, particularly if your passion is a career in the airlines. Hopefully Marco will read this as well.

It's an interesting topic, but it depends upon the 'situation on the ground' to use a military term.
If there are many many pilots with the same quals all vying for the job, and they all pass the psych/psychometric tests, then the assumption is that the pipper will be the degree.
However, I was talking with a young lad recently who did an aviation degree and he found that invariably the question asked was not "do you have a degree?", but "how many hours do you have?"
For a job with an airline, there are bare minimums to comply with...see their website...and as you progress closer and closer to an interview with a heavy jet airline, the more quals the better, but for the lighter stuff: aeronautical experience is king.
