$100 Burger Destination - Cessnock (YCNK)

A great $100 burger destination for Sydney pilots is Cessnock (YCNK) CTAF.

This airport is located about 6m north of Cessnock town which is in the middle of NSW's Hunter Valley wine growing areas.  It includes the region's large Information Centre as well as an excellent Cafe/Restaurant.

It is efficiently run by Hunter Valley Aviation (owned by Basair), with Cessnas and Pipers being available for training and private hire. The 1000m runway and all taxiways are sealed and bowser avgas is available.

My preferred route is Bankstown (YSBK) tracking direct to YCNK via Mt McQuoid VOR (MQD), and returning coastal at 500' from Nobbys Head (NBB) to Long Reef (LRF), and YSBK via Sydney's Light Aircraft Lane.

The entire flight is OCTA, however if feeling rich - and confident with local CTA procedures, a 20-30 minute "Sydney Harbour Scenic One" diversion from LRF is easily within reach of the average PPL.

The flight boasts stunning and diverse scenery including the extensive Hawkesbury River system, several large picturesque lakes, tiger country covered mountains, rolling cultivated farmland and vineyard areas,  spectacular coastal headlands and beaches, and of course, Sydney Harbour.  As a bonus, it is not uncommon to sight sharks, dolphins and/or whales during the return coastal flight.

The burger may be a little dearer than most, the total engine time (C172 or PA28) being about 2.7 - 3.3 hours (which includes the CTA Sydney Harbour scenic diversion).  Check it out on Google Earth.

Michael - I have included this information as a Cessnock airport review also  :-)
